Founded in 1867 in central Trempealeau County, the city of Independence sits at the confluence of Elk Creek and the Trempealeau River, surrounded by the wooded hills and scenic valleys of western Wisconsin.
In downtown Independence, visitors will find local shops and the restored 1902 City Hall and Opera House, as well as the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, which was built in 1895. City Hall Park is located on the shores of Bugle Lake and features an all-ages and abilities musical playground, a play area, and a picnic area.
Island Park features a quiet beachfront with an on-site playground and a picnic area. Four Seasons Park on the Trempealeau River has a canoe landing, fishing dock, and walking trails and is the home of the Lions Club Campground, which offers eight electric sites and four tent sites.
