Head to northwestern Trempealeau County to find the village of Eleva, which was settled in the early 1870s and grew into a metropolis in western Wisconsin when the railroad was built in the area in the 1880s.
Today, Eleva sits at the intersection of U.S. Highway 10 and State Highway 93 and the former railroad is now the Buffalo River State Trail, a popular spot for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ATVing/UTVing, horseback riding, and biking.
The Buffalo River, Big Creek, and Adams Creek are excellent spots for trout fishing in the area, and downtown’s Village Park features a baseball field, volleyball court, playground, and a 1-mile walking path. Don’t miss the Eleva Overlook at Highway 93 and County Road F for an amazing panoramic view of the Buffalo River Valley.
