A man kayaking in front of a scenic view at Trempealeau Wildlife Refuge

Explore the backwaters of the Mississippi River and other scenic waterways in Trempealeau County in western Wisconsin.

Canoers and kayakers have amazing opportunities to explore Trempealeau County’s wild spaces along scenic waterways and the backwaters of the Mississippi River.

At Perrot State Park, paddlers can navigate the 3.5-mile Voyageurs Canoe Trail through Trempealeau Bay. There is also a boat landing on the Trempealeau River where paddlers can access Trempealeau Bay and the Mississippi River. (Canoes and kayaks are available to rent at park headquarters.)

The Long Lake Canoe Trail winds through the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge for a little over 4 miles, and the slower-moving water and network of sloughs and islands offers amazing opportunities for birdwatching and wildlife viewing.

Pietrek Park in the central part of the county offers easy access to a gentle-flowing, shallow section of the Trempealeau River that’s popular among canoers and kayakers.
